Another fortnight has rolled around, and somehow we’re already more than halfway through winter. I don’t know about you, but by this stage of the season the novelty of frosty mornings has well and truly worn off. If I have to scrape the windscreen one more time, I might just start negotiating with the weather!
With the cold, gloomy days settling in, I recently decided it was time for a little self-appreciation and treated myself to a massage. And let me tell you – I highly recommend it. It reminded me that self-care doesn’t have to mean a luxury day spa or an expensive getaway. Sometimes it’s as simple as making a cuppa, finding a quiet corner and finally reading that book that’s been sitting on the bedside table for months. It might be taking the walk you’ve been promising yourself you’ll start tomorrow, or catching up with a friend for a laugh and a chat. Whatever fills your cup, make time for it.
The good news is that spring isn’t too far away. Before we know it, the gardens will be waking up, the days will be a little longer, and we’ll all be dusting off the winter hibernation. There’s something quite exciting about this time of year. It feels like the perfect opportunity to start thinking about what’s next, both personally and in our communities.
Speaking of exciting, I absolutely cannot wait for Beatlesfest in Bathurst. This year’s program has grown into a true multi-venue festival with a fantastic mix of satellite events that really does offer something for everyone. Whether you’re a music lover, a classic car enthusiast or someone who simply enjoys a good treasure hunt through markets and vintage finds, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. A huge congratulations and thank you to our good mates Jonathan and Wade, along with the many venues, businesses and volunteers who have quite literally “come together” to create what promises to be an unforgettable weekend. I have no doubt there’ll be plenty of people singing along, even if some of us only know the chorus!
We’re also heading into one of my favourite times of the year – business awards season. Oberon celebrates on Friday 4 September, followed by Bathurst on Saturday 5 September. Tickets are now available for both events, and I’d encourage anyone in business to come along, whether you’re a member of OBTA, the Bathurst Business Chamber or simply curious about what networking is all about. These evenings are so much more than awards. They’re a chance to celebrate local success, reconnect with familiar faces, make new connections and be reminded just how much talent, innovation and generosity exists right here in our region.
