CEMENTA 2022

The regional town of Kandos came alive over the weekend for the bi-annual CEMENTA festival.

CEMENTA is a contemporary Arts Festival that invites artists from around the country to participate in in a range of works from video and animation, to installations and performance pieces, all challenging the senses and committing to developing an artist led festival creating contemporary works in a a regional context.

Creative Director Alex Wisser is the creator and curator of the 4 day festival and worked with over 40 artists to bring this year’s festival to life after the pandemic and natural disasters of recent years forced postponements and delays.

There were many standout works at the festival, however the work of Blue Mountains based artist Alan Schacher, BLACK ST.REAMER installed at the Kandos Museum was one that captured the imagination with its scale, and the unspoken invitation to the observer to stand and witness the constantly evolving state in the wind.

The weekend also saw the first CEMENTA Artisan market on the railway green giving visitors another reason to stop and spend a while in the picturesque town and take in the festival as well as the deep sense of history.
