Catholic Diocese of Bathurst

The Catholic Diocese of Bathurst acknowledges and celebrates the traditions and meaning of Easter each year with the Holy Week and Easter art exhibition.

Year 9 and 10 art students in Catholic schools from Lithgow, Bathurst, Oberon, Mudgee, Dubbo and everywhere in between take part. Students select a Gospel reading from those with an Easter theme and research the history and context of the reading in order to write a personal reflection. From there students select an appropriate art medium to create a work representing their interpretation and personal reflection of what Easter means to them. Art works are in ceramic, paint, watercolour, pencil, charcoal and also stencilled and Lino print. The wide range of mediums used is consistent with the diverse points of view in the Easter reflections from the students.

This year’s Bishop’s Award, an award selected by Bishop Michael McKenna, was awarded to Keira Hauville, Year 9 student at St Matthew’s College Mudgee for her work ‘ The Women in Jesus’ Life’.
