Winburndale Dam

The importance of water security to the Bathurst Region has been highlighted by Bathurst MP Paul Toole on a recent visit to Winburndale Dam.

Mr Toole said the $16 million project has been three years in the making with the work being carried out to strengthen the dam wall to insure its integrity in times of high inflows.

“Winburndale Dam holds 1700 megalitres and acts as the city’s second water supply, servicing local parks, gardens and sporting fields,” he said.

“The work is being carried out Eodo Pty Ltd, and being managed by NSW Public Works. The project involves drilling 25 holes from the top of the dam wall some 50 metres into the bedrock below and then high tensile steel cables are strained tight to strengthen the wall.”

Mr Toole said the NSW Government and Bathurst Regional Council had partnered to provide the funding for the project at Winburndale Dam which was built in 1930.
