A community event was held on Tuesday 8 March at Eskbank House Museum to promote and take action on gender equity and to raise awareness of gender bias.
Despite the heavy rain, Mayor Maree Statham and Deputy Mayor Cassandra Coleman hosted a welcoming event where women in our diverse community could be heard and honoured.
Master of Ceremony Kelly Evans welcomed guests and acknowledged their support for this year’s #IWD #BreakTheBias campaign.
Guests shared their life experiences which helped to positively portray how a group of women can be actively part of their community, and still have shared experiences of racism, prejudice, and bias. Moreover, diverse women’s stories inspired the audience to reach out and acknowledge them for speaking up.
Mayor Maree Statham said “I would like to thank the event panel of Ella Zorz, Emily Seliscar, Rachel Nichols and Glenda Phipps for being progressive, strong, smart, resilient women who reject a singular view of the world, who dream big or small but make things happen, inspiring us on their way.
“Also a special thank you to the women staff and volunteers of Eskbank House Museum for preparing the venue for this wonderful event,” concluded the Mayor.
Lithgow City Council supports and promotes gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. We understand gender equality as a contributor to sustainable communities and that only happens when community members draw strength from each other.
