The Central Tablelands’ Agriculture industry could soon receive a boost of skilled talent, with TAFE NSW Bathurst offering a new Agriculture course in 2023.
A new agriculture course has made its way to the Central Tablelands, inspiring the next generation of farmers at TAFE NSW Bathurst.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said TAFE NSW Bathurst will offer a Certificate IV in Agriculture to locals for the first time in at least a decade.
“The NSW Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to ensuring TAFE NSW is responding to local agricultural industry demand and helping build the workforce Bathurst needs now and into the future,” Mr Toole said.
“Bathurst is an agricultural powerhouse historically, contributing around $59 million each year to the nation’s economy and employs more than 800 people in the area, and studying this new course means graduates can secure leadership roles such as a farm manager or livestock overseer.”
Despite recent devastating weather events, agriculture in NSW is contributing more to the economy than ever before, with the total value of the industry rising to a record $23.1 billion in 2022.
Minister for Skills and Training Alister Henskens said the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government was delivering more opportunities to help local people get the skills they needed for the jobs they want.
“New course offerings and access to flexible learning options from their local TAFE NSW campus means less need to travel to bigger centres for our students, so our young people can stay in their local communities,” Mr Henskens said.
“This new course at TAFE NSW Bathurst will not only equip our next generation of agricultural workers with in-demand skills, but it will also help deliver the job-ready graduates’ local employers they need.
“This is all part of the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government’s plan to keep the State moving forward.”
The first course will begin in March and enrolments are open now via TAFE NSW website.
