Central Tablelands Water: Delivering One of Life’s Essentials Across Our Region

Reliable access to clean, safe drinking water is something many of us take for granted, yet behind every tap is an organisation working quietly every day to keep communities supplied. Across much of the Central Tablelands, that responsibility belongs to Central Tablelands Water.

Operating as the trading name of Central Tablelands County Council, Central Tablelands Water has been serving the region for more than 80 years. First proclaimed in 1944, the organisation today supplies bulk water across the Blayney, Cabonne and Weddin local government areas, while also providing bulk water to Cowra Shire Council for rural consumers and the villages of Woodstock and Gooloogong.

Its story is one of regional vision and determination. What began as an ambitious proposal by local councillors in the late 1930s grew into one of regional New South Wales’ most significant water supply networks. Generations of community leaders recognised that securing a reliable water supply would be vital for the future growth and prosperity of local towns, agriculture and industry.

Today, Central Tablelands Water continues that legacy by maintaining and operating the extensive infrastructure needed to deliver water across a large and diverse region. While much of its work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt every day in homes, schools, businesses, sporting facilities and farms.

Water is one of our most valuable resources, and ensuring communities have access to a dependable supply requires careful planning, ongoing investment and a long-term commitment to sustainability.

Over the coming months, the Central West Village Voice will introduce readers to the people, projects and planning behind Central Tablelands Water, highlighting the important work being undertaken to support our communities today while preparing for the needs of tomorrow.

It’s a story of regional cooperation, forward thinking and an organisation that has quietly been helping our communities thrive for generations.
