Kelso High Campus hosts RSL Sub-Branch representative at ANZAC Day commemoration: The Flags flew at half mast at Kelso High Campus on the 28th of April for our ANZAC Day service. This year, we had the honour of hosting veteran, former President of the RSL sub-branch, David Mills.
The whole school assembly was run by the School Captains, Lacey Sharwood, Erin Thomas, Eli Corkery and me. After the initial introduction, my fellow Captains and I laid a wreath before an address by KHC Principal, Michael Sloan, who spoke about his wife’s family connection to Charles Alfred Pertzel, and his remarkable service in both the First and Second World Wars. David Mills’ speech to the students of KHC highlighted the enduring relevance and importance of ANZAC Day and was listened to attentively by all present. KHC’s CAPA students performed throughout the assembly, with the National Anthem played by the concert band and sung by School Captain Eli Corkery, the Last Post and Rouse played by Satya Gibbon on trumpet, and the drum-line accompanied by Harrison Eastwood on bagpipes playing Waltzing Matilda.
The assembly was well received by all as a sincere tribute to the original ANZACs and to servicemen and women in subsequent conflicts. Hopefully, this assembly will set a precedent for future ANZAC commemorations at KHC and help build a continuing rapport between KHC and our local RSL sub-branch.
Lest we forget.
