The Glen Museum is turning 50, and everyone is invited to join the golden celebration on Sunday 4th May 2025, from 11am to 3pm. Located opposite the Coronation Hotel at 36 Williwa Street, Portland, the anniversary event promises a festive and memorable day for all ages.
Festivities will begin with an official ceremony at 11am, featuring a special cake-cutting to mark the occasion. After the ceremony, guests are encouraged to wander through the museum and storage sheds, explore fascinating local displays, and chat with knowledgeable guides who are always keen to share stories of Portland’s rich history.
Be sure to visit the gift shop, where you’ll find a unique selection of limited edition books, historic maps, and postcards celebrating the area’s past. Another highlight includes a chance to speak with a local expert on antique doll collections, offering insights into a rarely seen corner of local heritage.
One of the day’s most anticipated activities is the Period Dress-Up Competition, open to three age groups: Up to 6 years, 6–12 years, and Over 12 years. Judging takes place at 1pm, and it’s free to enter—just come dressed in your best vintage attire!
Families can enjoy Charlie’s Treasure Hunt, a free and fun activity for children, while the grown-ups try their luck in the raffle with over $1000 worth of prizes. There’ll also be plenty of delicious food and a chance to take photos with Superman.
Entry for the entire day is just $5.
Stephen Graham, President of The Glen Museum committee, said, “This is a wonderful milestone for the museum and for Portland. We’re proud to celebrate our history and invite the whole community to come and enjoy a day filled with fun, memories, and a real sense of togetherness.”
