Lithgow City Council has been successful in receiving a grant of $656,000 for improvements to the Lake Pillans Wetlands area.
The NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities program is providing the grant, which will include an array of upgrades.
The improvements will include installation of landscaping to control vehicle access to the Wetlands, construction of an accessible carparking area with connecting pedestrian shared pathways to the Wetlands, construction of new and the widening of existing pathways connecting the shared pathway network around Lake Pillans and beyond plus landscaping improvements and solar lighting around the pathway network.
Deputy Premier and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said this funding will beautify and increase accessibility.
“This is a popular walking area for locals and visitors That, with this funding, will be made accessible to everyone,” Mr Toole said.
“There are already new boardwalks connecting Lake Pillans to Farmers Creek and the Blast Furnace, now there will be better lighting, carparking and landscaping for walkers to enjoy.”
Lithgow Mayor Maree Statham said the upgrades will help improve the overall look and feel of the area.
“This funding will connect the current walking tracks and bring together some much-needed improvements to the parking and landscaping of the area,” said Mayor Statham.
Previously, Mr Toole granted Lithgow City Council $1 million in funding to rectify over 6km of boardwalks that were damaged by bushfires. This project was complete in August last year.
The Stronger Country Communities Fund had delivered more than 2000 grassroots projects, benefitting every Local Government Area in regional NSW.
“We all know how important it is for communities to have great places to come together to build social connections and boost their wellbeing through sport or community events,” said Mr Toole.
Round Five of the Stronger Country Communities Fund will support local community and sporting infrastructure projects, street beautification, public programs and events that display the best of local character and community spirit.
The Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure in the regions.
