After the completion of major upgrades at the Lithgow Croquet Club to improve and make the playing surface larger, Member for Bathurst Paul Toole has again thrown the NSW Government’s support behind the local sporting organisation.
He has announced a grant of $5813 for the purchase of a new cylinder mower and attachments to allow the upkeep of the newly laid couch greens to ensure they can be maintained in tip top condition.
In 2018 Mr Toole announced funding of $160,405 from the NSW Government for upgrades at the club with the intention of allowing it to expand its operations and host bigger and better competitions.
“Those improvements included the removal and replacement of the existing lawn areas as well as the installation of extra greens, new sprinkler systems and new perimeter security fencing,” he said.
“The Lithgow Croquet Club provides an alternative to lawn bowls and plays host to special needs groups and the elderly.
“There are several different types of croquet games with the newest being ‘Gateball’ which is rapidly growing in Australia and is suited to players of all ages.”
Mr Toole said that cylinder mowers are specially designed to give a low and even cut on the greens to ensure a superior playing service.
“The mower also comes with attachments which will allow the greens to be cored and scarified,” he said.
Mr Toole said croquet is a low impact sport and can help fill the gap for seniors’ unable to play lawn bowls because of knee, back or other mobility problems
