Bathurst’s annual Seniors Festival officially got underway on Monday, 2 March, marking the start of a month-long program celebrating the region’s older residents and the important role they play in the community.
This year’s festival carried the vibrant theme “Live Life in Colour!”, encouraging seniors to stay active, connected and engaged while embracing new experiences and opportunities across the region.
The official launch was held at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, where Bathurst Regional Council hosted its aptly named ‘NationaliTEAS of Bathurst’ event. The gathering brought together community members, volunteers and local representatives to mark the beginning of the festival in a warm and welcoming setting.
Bathurst Mayor Cr Robert Taylor attended the launch and spoke about the significance of the festival, describing it as an opportunity for the community to recognise and thank the older adults who have contributed so much to the region over many years.
Mayor Taylor also noted that the commencement of the 2026 Bathurst Seniors Festival coincided with the beginning of community consultation for Council’s upcoming Positive Ageing Strategy 2026–2031.
The updated strategy will guide Council’s future planning and services to ensure Bathurst continues to support a growing ageing population. As part of the consultation process, surveys were made available at various Seniors Festival events, giving community members the chance to provide feedback and help shape the strategy.
Council says the new plan will align with leading policy frameworks while renewing its commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for older residents.
The Bathurst Seniors Festival program features a wide range of activities designed to bring people together, encourage social connection and celebrate the many talents and interests of the region’s seniors.
With events taking place across Bathurst throughout the festival period, locals are encouraged to take part, reconnect with friends and enjoy the many opportunities on offer.
