Hear Geoff in conversation at the library for his brand-new book!

The First Law of the Bush is Geoff Parkes’ new rural noir set in New Zealand’s rugged King Country.

A year after Bill Dickerson fell to his death on a worksite, his widow has received no explanation about what happened.

She hires Ryan Bradley, who has just returned to the remote town of Nashville as a lawyer, to get answers. Was it suicide? An accident? Or murder? In small towns, nothing is quite what it seems.

About the author

Born and raised in rural New Zealand, Geoff Parkes has written a weekly opinion column for The Roar, Australia’s leading on-line sports website for 12 years. He is the author of two crime novels.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing on the day.

Take My Advice, I’m Not Using it! Author Talk with Rod Halsted

Thursday, 05 March 2026 | 11:00 AM

Bookings: 6333 6281

Hear larrikin Rod Halsted speak about his memoir Take My Advice, I’m Not Using It!

About the book.

The laugh-out-loud story of Rod’s rollercoaster life from penthouse to the slammer, and how he finally found his way back to sanity.

Rod Halsted is the classic irrepressible Aussie larrikin. As soon as he could leave school, he headed straight to Kalgoorlie for adventure. Not that he needed to cross the country: adventure always finds Rod, and he loves to take a risk. Rod drank with Bob Hawke, did business with drug tsars, was rescued from the nick by Charles Waterstreet, hung with one of the Great Train Robbers, and wrote off endless cars. Then it all caught up with him. He has long since abandoned the drugs and conquered his alcohol addiction. This is his laugh-out-loud story. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on the day.
