Yes, Mrs Heritage reminded me it’s time for the first heritage matters column for 2026. (How many more are left in the tank?)
Over Christmas I wandered the streets of Bathurst, as I am wont to do, this time looking at two storey terraces. When we think terraces, we tend to immediately think of Paddington and Surry Hills in Sydney, but in Bathurst they feature in the historic centre quite a lot, mainly built in the late 1800’s.
Our pic is of Centennial Terrace in Keppel Street, with the two middle ones handsomely repainted recently. When was it built? Well, the excellent building sign says it all, 100 years after Gov. Phillip landed at Sydney Cove. It’s number 101 in the heritage listing in the Bathurst LEP.
Probably my pick of them all is Cambria Terrace in Havannah Street, a handsome row of big homes. But, Bathurst also is known for its rows of single storey terraces too.
