Australia Day in Portland

Australia Day in Portland promises a full day of family fun and summer celebrations, with events running right across town on Sunday, 26 January.

The heart of the celebrations will be Wolgan Street, which will come alive from 10am to 3pm for the town’s main Australia Day event. Locals and visitors can expect a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with live musical entertainment throughout the day, a range of vehicle displays, and emergency services on hand with displays for all ages to explore.

The official Australia Day ceremony will take place at 12pm, including the ambassador’s address, a key moment in the day to pause, reflect and recognise the people and values that shape the Portland community. As always, the event is designed to be inclusive, family-friendly and a chance to catch up with neighbours and friends. A big acknowledgment to long-time resident John Kearns, who has been coordinating this day in town for many years. The Portland community is incredibly grateful to all involved, under John’s careful eye!

When the sun starts to bite, Portland Community Pool will be the place to be. Thanks to the generous support of EnergyAustralia and the Portland RSL, entry to the pool will be completely free all day. The pool will be open from 10am until 6pm, with DJ Kenny bringing the summer vibes from 1pm to 3pm. A free sausage sizzle will run from 12pm until sold out, making it an easy option for families looking to cool off and refuel.

The celebrations continue just across the road at Zig Zag Brewery, which opens from 12pm. Live music kicks off from 2pm, alongside a barbecue offering food for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going back to support the Portland Pool.

With events spread across Wolgan Street, the pool and the brewery, Australia Day in Portland is shaping up as a true whole-of-town celebration; relaxed, welcoming and proudly local.
