Mitchell Conservatorium

The Mitchell Conservatorium board is today announcing the appointment of Andrew Smith as the new Executive Director, following the news last month of Dr. Graham Sattler’s imminent relocation to New Zealand.

Mr. Smith was the previous Head of Music and Performance at Denison College, Bathurst High, and the Chair of the Mitchell Conservatorium Board from 2014 until earlier this year. Leaving his current responsibilities with the Department of Education as Senior Pathways Officer, he will commence his new role with MItCon on November 15th.

Exiting Executive Director Graham Sattler says “We had a terrific field of applicants for the position, and with the recruitment and interview process being finalised last Monday, the Board has made the appointment and Andrew has accepted.”

Smith agrees with enthusiasm regarding his new position, “I feel honored to be entrusted with this important role. I am looking forward to working with the Mitcon staff and the music community as we work to relaunch music performances and activities after the long pandemic-induced hiatus. I see MitCon as a vital hub in the future enrichment of our region’s wellbeing.”

On the subject of his successor, Dr. Sattler comments “I welcome Andrew into the role. His wealth of experience in music and performance leadership, plus his deep knowledge of the community, positions him excellently to take over the stewardship of this great organisation.”

Mitchell Conservatorium relocated at the end of June to their new premises at 130 Havannah Street. They have settled into the arts precinct and are thrilled with the return to face-to-face lessons in their new building, after the last lockdown saw them pivot back to online delivery.
