The New Era Midwest Cup match of the round between reigning premiers Villages United and this season’s hotshots Wallerawang Warriors resulted in a decisive win to the Warriors 50-14.

Played at Wallerawang, this round-six victory ensures that the Warriors, with just one more round to play before the halfway point of the competition, will commence the second half of the season in top spot, clear four-point leaders on the ladder, unbeaten on 12 points.

Fullback Nathan Redding scored five tries, and goalkicker Josh Howarth contributed 16 points including an intercept try, one of two Warriors’ intercepts, the other by winger Ben Beecroft.

Redding scored the first try after 10 minutes, and Wallerawang led 28-0 at halftime before Villages’ Alex Knight scored an unconverted try in the 50th minute, but five minutes later Redding’s third put the game well beyond the reach of the below-strength Bathurst side with an imposing 30-point lead with 25 minutes remaining.

Four tries in 78 minutes was not enough for Redding, and after scoring the first try of the game, he also finished with the final try of the day in the 79th minute for his 20-point contribution, this also converted by Howarth.

At Diggings Oval CSU Yellow followed up last week’s win over Villages to beat Kandos 36-0, the Waratahs in the invidious position of meeting the white-hot students still on a high after their previous week’s win.

Orange Barbarians were untroubled in beating Portland Colts 36-12 at Orange.

In leaguetag Kandos Waratahs came crashing down from their lofty top-of-the-table position with a 36-0 loss to CSU Yellow, with the second university side Blue making it a double for the ladies with a 22-6 defeat of Lithgow Bears.

Portland Fillies had the closest game with a four-point win over Orange Barbies, and Wallerawang Warriettes defeated Villagettes 40-6 to retain their unbeaten status.

There is no play due to a bye on the long weekend of June 11/12.
