The 41st Annual Portland Art Exhibition is coming up again on the first weekend of March, and the committee are reminding local artists that they need to get their entries in by the 3rd February to be involved in this year’s exhibition.
The exhibition has developed a well deserved reputation as one of the best executed and most successful regional show, not just in the Central West, but throughout all of regional Australia.
This year, The Portland Art Prize is again sponsored by The Foundations Portland, and Prize money is on offer for the best painting judged by the judging committee that represents the theme chosen for this year – ‘BOTTLES’.
“When we selected this theme, we wanted to give artists a fantastic scope to choose their subject, however there finished artwork must contain a bottle,” said a committee representative.
“We have had some confusion with some local artists painting the bottle kilns, which is fine, however they are not bottles, so another bottle must be in the work somewhere.”
There is a cash prize of $650 for first prize and $350 for second prize.
The Feature artist for this year is Central West local artist – Nicole Foxall.
Nicole is a colour junkie who loves injecting hefty doses of pigment and vibrancy into her paintings. Her mission is to express and create from the world around her and bring colour and happiness to people’s walls. Nicole’s painting process is loose and spontaneous with each piece a unique translation of the subject.
The committee will finalise their plans, and look forward to putting on one of Portland’s most anticipated annual events.
The Opening night will be held on Friday 3rd March at Portland’s Crystal Theatre fro 6:30pm, see the website http://portlandart.com.au for details.
