Portland residents and renowned artists – Joe Penn and Lesley O’Shea have a wonderful exhibition running at the Bathurst regional gallery throughout the holiday period and in to January.
The show, titled – Two Lives – One Road” is a celebration of the two artists unique views of the world. The series includes a number of works featuring both local subjects and many beyond.
Over a period of 16 years, Lesley O’Shea and Joe Penn have filled over 300 sketch books documenting their lives and travels through New South Wales; from the hustle and bustle of Sydney to the rural peace of small country towns like Weethalle and Portland. These paintings and works on paper are a tribute to the people and places they have encountered in their travels, and a personal celebration of their shared love of drawing.
Of particular note are the images of the Portland Cement Works by Lesley that have a very unique colourful interpretation of the abandoned industrial site that many locals still remember in it’s hey day.
The Bathurst Regional Gallery is a wonderful space for art lovers and the current exhibition offerings are certainly of a calibre to match the surroundings.
If you are holidaying at home this Christmas, I would highly recommend a visit to the gallery and spending an afternoon viewing their exhibition.
