Huge event for Taekwondo in Lithgow

The 24th Blue Mountains Taekwondo Championships were held in Lithgow over the weekend.

Over 250 fighters attended the event from 17 clubs, with 235 full contact fighters and 49 non-contact pattern competitors. Clubs travelled from across Queensland, the ACT and NSW in order to attend.

Saturday night was all Poomsae events with some excellent performances by all including some current Australian Black Belt representatives from IMPACT Martial Arts.

Haktari’s Amy Muir, Hayley Robson and Lorena Brown all did their best but were unlucky not to get a place.

On Sunday there were three rings running using Electronic Daedo scoring. Full contact sparring started at 9am, and after 148 fights the events were finished at just on 6pm.

Haktari Taekwondo in Lithgow had 12 fighters and 3 pattern competitors. The club had some great results with Haktari TKD fighters won 8 x 1st place, 6 x 2nd place & 1 x 3rd place.

At the conclusion of the weekend the Haktari TKD army, plus other clubs, all chipped in to help and within 50 minutes the entire venue was packed up swept and mopped doors locked, an unbelievable effort.

Haktari TKD must thank all the other clubs, not only for bringing quality players that display great respect for their opponents, but also for assistance on the day.

The Lithgow facility is reaching full capacity and while it’s been great to see the event grow from year to year, Jeff Crane of Haktari TKD did express a wish for a bigger local facility with tiered seating adding, “Now Lithgow has got its indoor heated pool wouldn’t it be nice to see a bigger indoor facility to meet growing needs?”

Thanks must also go to the local business that sponsored this years championships: Mooto Australia and New Zealand, One Agency, Salud, Message Train and Lithgow Valley Springs.
