The recognition and support the of the arts in the Lithgow and surrounding areas was shown by The Greater Lithgow Arts Council at their Annual Lithgow District Cultural Awards on the 27th March at the Union Theatre Lithgow. The night was very successful with many talented and skilled nominees, their families, supporters and community members attending the night. Guests were treated to a night of great entertainment by local talent Bridget Cama, Peter and Gay Avery and Glenda Phipps and homemade cakes, slices and tea.
Those nominations and overall Winners are as follows:
Youth Section
Nominations: Aminah Baker, Heather Sy and Callum Woodrow.
Winner: Benny Fair a talented singer and performer
Adult section
Nominations: Martin Doherty, Don White and Jeanette Dean
Winner: Gustaw Szelski who is a talented musician, conductor, musical director and integral leader of the Lithgow Community Orchestra
Group Section
Nominations: Lithgow High Schools production of “Guys and Dolls and Lithgow Musical Society production of “Annie”.
Winner: Helen Drewe, Suzanne Lollback Robert Coveny and Ken Durie for their publication of ‘Native Plants of Hassans Walls Reserve Lithgow’ for their publication to ensure a continued appreciation of the natural wonders in the Lithgow area.
The Greater Lithgow Arts Council would like to thank the members who helped to make the night such a success. A special thanks to Rae Burton (President), Al Ricthie (chair), Dianne Sullivan (photography), Paul Goodwin (sound and lights), Kym Cama and Gayle Zorz (catering and decorations), Wendy Barratt (Secretary) and Winsome Smith. A special thanks to our guest Mayor Maree Statham for supporting and being an advocate for the arts in the Lithgow area.
The Greater Lithgow Arts Council are calling on the community in support of seeking sponsorship. For the Lithgow District Cultural Awards to continue and to ensure that promotion and recognition of the arts and culture in Lithgow do notr cease, it is essential for sponsorship of these awards.
The Greater Lithgow Arts Council meets every second Wednesday of the month at TreeView Estates, Bowenfels at 7:30 p.m.
Nominations are now open for the 2015/16 Lithgow District Cultural Awards. Nomination forms can be found at the Lithgow Library, Mercury Office, LINC, Lithgow Mitchell Conservatorium, Sweetbriar House Arts and Craft and Lithgow Council Building.
