Lithgow’s Andrew Burton returned ‘home’ to win the Raffan Cup Portland Open with a 73 off the stick. This was good scoring with the course having 10ml rain overnight and windy conditions.
Local champ Mitch Flynn was runner-up with 77 on a countback from the consistent Steven Stait 77. Steven took out the handicap section with 65 nett, well clear of Anthony Boza (Lithgow) 71 nett. B Grade scratch winner was the high flying Scot, John (Jock) McCluskie with 85 off the stick, Terry Heath ran 2nd with a 92. B Grade handicap was fought out between 2 Henbury golfers, Roger Martin’s 73 getting the better of George Deveigne’s 74 nett. ken McCabe (Cambelltown) won the vets handicap with 73 nett on a countback from Dennis Hartfield 73. Nearest the pins went to Peter Griffiths, ‘A’ Grade longest drive, Jolly John McCluskie getting the ‘B’ Grade nearest the pin in 2 shots on the 4th hole went to Peter Griffiths.

Saturday’s mixed canadian foursomes was won by (husband and wife team) Graeme and Margaret Blackley, runners up were Doreen Miles and Dennis Hartfield. Graeme and Margaret also won the best scratch score. Best cakes, Miriam and Lynn.
