Upgrading to the synthetic surface of Field #1 at Glanmire Oval is planned to be completed and the field ready for play before Christmas 2014.
Council has awarded the tender for the replacement of the synthetic surface to Polytan STI, a company experienced in hockey field construction and refurbishments, who have delivered a number of impressive Federation International Hockey approved water hockey turfs nationwide, including the improvements to Field #2 at Glanmire Oval, completed in 2010. Council is working with the Lithgow Hockey Association to ensure minimal disruptions during the start of the summer hockey season, with the other facilities at Glanmire Oval able to be used during the construction period.
Councillor Maree Statham said “It is commendable how well the Lithgow Hockey Association cared for their well used fields and have been able to extend the average useful life of the existing field constructed almost twenty (20) years ago”.
“The new Polygras Olympia synthetic surface will provide a superior playing surface for local, state, regional, national and international hockey matches, and is vital in ensuring the high quality of hockey hosted in Lithgow.”
“Funding of the $320,000 project has been made possible by Council’s allocation of $200,000 adding to the Lithgow Hockey Association’s contribution of $120,000 for this project” concluded Mayor Statham.
The development of recreational facilities that will meet the needs of the community now and into the future is part of Council’s plan to development the Built Environment in order to promote Lithgow as a Centre for Regional Excellence in the Community Strategic Plan 2026.
