The inaugural Portland Spring Flowers and Fashion show is on next Saturday, 6th September at the beautiful Crystal Theatre.
To celebrate the beginning of Spring, the Crystal Theatre will be open for flowers and fashion. The plants are supplied by the very generous folks at Good Earth in Lidsdale and will be available for purchase on the day with a percentage of the profits from sales going to Portland town projects so all monies raised will stay in town.
Opening at 10am for viewing of the flowers and the Fashion show at 1pm, guests will be able to see the new fashion for Portland and the finale being a showing of rare Japanese kimonos.
Portland local Sue Hardwick, with a little helping hand from the Portland Development Association, is hosting this event in their attempt to raise awareness of one of their local iconic buildings – the Crystal Theatre. “It’s such a lovely building, rich with history and we’re afraid if we don’t use the Theatre, it could be boarded up and closed down!” Sue said.
Portland Development Association President, Barbara Bretherton agreed with Sue and commented, “We just want the community and groups in the whole LGA to know that there is a venue available and there are literally hundreds of uses for the place.”
In recent years the Crystal Theatre has been used by the Portland Cinema Committee showing new release films and by the Portland Art Society to host their annual Art Show. The Cinema Committe is currently in the process of upgrading some equipment and will be kicking off again soon, in the meantime, the Crystal Theatre is available for functions and events by groups and community members.
Maybe it is the right venue for your next party? If you’re keen to get some more information in hiring the Crystal, contact Lithgow Council on 6354 9999.
But back to the Flower and Fashion Show… Doors open from 10am to 4pm with entry only $5 per person and kids under 12 free. Light lunch will be available for purchase at the Crystal Canteen and the Fashion show starts at 1:00pm. Most importantly, there is easy disabled access in to the Theatre. Please join us to celebrate SPRING in Portland and support the Crystal Theatre.
