Throughout the month of August the Australian Physiotherapy Association in conjunction with Steel Blue will run TRADIES NATIONAL HEALTH MONTH – a health awareness campaign to educate Tradies on the importance of full body health and safety.
This year, National Tradies Health Month has gone digital with a great new website created especially to get the message out to Tradies on how to move well and stay well, and how physiotherapy can be a supportive part of a healthy lifestyle.
Go to www.tradieshealth.com.au where you will find heaps of health information and tips including 16 fact sheets that you can view and download, with everything from How to protect your Eyes and your Hearing, through to what injuries can be caused by Vibration and even Prostate Cancer info.
There are informative videos that give you Knee Injury Tips and Back Injury Tips, as well as practical information on Diabetes and Heart Disease. Kyal and Kara, popular contestants from THE BLOCK, star in a video called Why Tradies Health Matters, a video promoting positive health and lifestyle messages for tradies. Kara Demmrich is a physiotherapist and her husband Kyal is a carpenter. They were a popular couple in the last season of The Block and together they know a lot about Occupational Health and Safety.
There is a fun online game called PAIN BREAKER where you can play as Dave Hughes, or as Kyle and Kara, and navigate your way through the construction site…and remember, don’t ignore the pain! You can play at www.tradieshealthgame.com.au
THERE ARE GREAT PRIZES to be won too! 100 Steel Blue Boot vouchers are up for grabs, as well as the Ultimate Surfing, Fishing or Camping Adventure package valued at up to $4,000. So check out the website and be in it to win it, and at the same time pick up some handy tips on how to look after yourself in the workplace and at home.
Physiotherapists are experts in human movement. They understand how your muscles, bones joints and ligaments work and how injuries happen. Physiotherapists are able to get you back to work faster. Nearly a quarter of all roofers, laborers and plumbers experience back pain, muscle stress, and strain from lifting equipment or slips, trips, and falls when handling materials. Don’t ignore the pain, see a physio.
