In the last few weeks Lithgow has seen a blood moon, meteor showers and even strange lines appearing in the daytime sky. Strange activity for our normally quiet town.
These events may or may not be linked to the forthcoming Ironfest, perhaps the event, billed as ‘Life on Mars’, has prompted some of those martians in to thinking it was time to pay a visit.
If there is a conspiracy, then a walk through the events at the Showground this weekend will probably not help you solve it – however there will be many otherworldly characters, as a range of visitors from all over Australia descend on what is becoming known as one of the premier events in the calendar for fans of all things fantasy, sci-fi and comic book.
This year’s Ironfest will feature a range of activities and events over 3 days, with something for everyone to enjoy. The Medieval jousting always draws a huge crowd and is one of the highlights of the weekend.
The alien nature of this year’s event is sure to see a range of exciting exhibitors and costumes, along with the medieval, steam punk and cosplay communities.
There will also be a range of local and specialist market stalls, selling everything from traditional medieval swords to hand crafted leather goods and festival foods.
There will be music throughout the day, displays of art, sculpture, dancing, circus and the much anticipated annual Battle of Lithgow. Last year the grand stand shook when the canons were fired. It is certainly a sight to behold.
One of the highlights of this year’s event will be Mayor Maree Statham’s Fashion @ the Fest, to be held at 3pm on Saturday afternoon. We hope to see the Mayor really getting in to the swing of things and dressing for the occasion.
With children under 12 from the local area able to enter for free this year, it is certainly something you need to get down and checkout.
