Are you thinking of your future and what you might need in your home as you age?
If you answered yes, then you need to talk to the dedicated and caring staff at Lithgow Information and Neighbourhood Centre (LINC), Home and Community Care (HACC), Home Modification and Maintenance Service.
Before you renovate or downsize, you should consider how your needs may change as you age. Many people purchase homes with too many steps, or paths with gradients that are too steep to be easily navigated by those who need a walker or a wheelchair. These issues, along with narrow doors, and ramps without handrails are just some things that should be considered when preparing your home for the future.
It’s also important to think ahead when embarking on bathroom renovations. Bathrooms are often one of the biggest hurdles to over come if you want to continue living in your own home as you age. New bathrooms can be very expensive, so you can save a lot of money by doing it properly the first time.
Some things to consider include removing any showers over the bath, as they are often difficult and dangerous to enter, and adding hand rails near the bath and toilet.
The years can pass by quickly, so it’s important to plan for the future while there is time.
The HACC Staff are more than happy to offer advice about this service to anyone who is interested.
